NYX: Spill the Gloss

Working as lead designer at Poppins, I brought NYX Professional Makeup’s bold personality to life in this brand activation. To match one of L’Oréal’s loudest brands, we created an unapologetically glossy activation: a black cab transformed into a double-take moment that had people talking, posing and posting.

While strategy shaped the platform, I translated it into visual cues, experiential design details and prop concepts that brought the idea to life on the day. The insight secrets shared bring people together informed everything from graphic styling to the tactile elements I designed for the activation.

I designed the oil-spill for the car livery and ground, as well as the campaign graphics and tactile set elements, to transform a classic London black cab into a NYX-branded spectacle.

Drawing inspiration from immersive venues like Stormzy’s House Party, I led the design of the cab’s full visual world. Blending old and new textures with retro Y2K patterns to create a chaotic, glossy, NYX-ified interior. I designed the graphics, prop elements and protective coverings (from drapes to oversized bubbles) to safeguard key areas of the cab while keeping the space visually rich. The goal was to build an interior full of playful easter eggs and hidden details, something that felt like you’d stumbled into a place you maybe shouldn’t be, perfect for exploration and content creation.

The Spill

As part of the on the day art direction, I styled and photographed the activation using a polaroid camera, ensuring the visuals captured the playful energy of our clean-up crew and the chaotic gloss spill.
